Playing the piano is a skill that can be enjoyed through every phase of life, but it takes practice! Small group piano classes provide excellent instruction with the added fun and motivation that comes from making music with friends. It has been shown that children will practice harder to please their friends in group piano class than they will work for a teacher at a private lesson. Children who learn in group classes have been shown to continue with piano far longer than when taught one-on-one, they become better ensemble players, are relaxed performers and have excellent sight reading skills.
At "Early Childhood Music of Ames" we use the country’s leading group piano method – the Mayron Cole Method. This is a complete piano course where each student learns to READ music easily and to COUNT rhythms accurately. Fun theory games are included each week. When should my child begin piano lessons?
Most children are not ready for formal piano lessons before the age of 6 or 7. Before that they tend to lack the commitment to make lessons a pleasurable and successful experience. All children possess the ability to enjoy lifelong music making, and this ability can be greatly influenced by how we choose to approach their earliest experiences.
Kindermusik contains all of the needed elements to develop a child who is musically aware and who has a solid foundation to make formal lessons a natural and joyous next step. Children who grow up in Kindermusik have had chances to succeed, be nurtured and encouraged in their early creative explorations, and develop a core of musicianship through voice, body and mind.
